There are topics best avoided on board a ship – religion and politics are among them. Personal beliefs are deeply rooted, and experiences vary widely from person to person. In the confined space of a sailboat, where people spend days or even weeks together, such discussions can quickly lead to conflicts. Yet, there is something that transcends all these differences: respect, humanity, and the desire for a free, open world for all.
A World Where Everyone Has a Place
Our society has made great progress in recent decades. Minorities have become more visible, equality has been fought for, and freedom has been lived. But these achievements are not guaranteed. More and more, we see rights being restricted, freedoms curtailed, and groups pushed to the margins. The political developments in many countries are moving in a direction that is not just conservative but deliberately seeks to suppress the diversity we stand for. We must not accept this!
For many of us, sailing represents freedom. The vastness of the ocean, the wind in the sails, the independence – all of this embodies a form of freedom that we cherish. But true freedom only exists when everyone can enjoy it, regardless of their origin, skin color, faith, or who they feel drawn to. Excluding others takes away their freedom. Suppressing diversity not only restricts others but also ourselves.
The World is Colorful – and Our Logo Reflects That
To make this visible, I have redesigned our logo in vibrant colors. It is meant to send a message: The world is not gray, not monochrome, not uniform. The world is colorful, and that is its greatest strength!
That is why it is so important for me to say: Our world is colorful. Our community is colorful. And that’s how it should stay.
Diversity is Our Strength
There are people who try to roll back achievements such as equality and minority rights. They want only certain groups to enjoy privileges while others are excluded. That must not happen. We all bear responsibility – for ourselves and for each other. No matter where someone comes from, what they believe in, or whom they love – every person deserves respect.
Sailing as a Symbol of Openness
When we sail, we encounter people from all over the world. In every harbor, in every bay, on every dock. We exchange stories, learn from each other, and support one another. At sea, it doesn’t matter where someone comes from – the only thing that matters is mutual respect and support. And that’s exactly how it should be on land as well.
Let’s Make a Statement
Each of us can make a statement in our own environment. Through openness, respect, and the courage to stand up for diversity. I don’t want us to look back one day and say, „We should have done something.“ I want us to be able to say with joy, „We stood up for a colorful world.“
That’s why this logo is not just for our website but represents an attitude. An attitude that celebrates diversity. An attitude that welcomes everyone. An attitude that says: The world is colorful – and that’s a good thing!
This is, what I belive in. Heiko
